Destination Boiler Room
Bellevue
Seven years ago Northwest Mechanical, Inc. installed a high-end Wirsbo radiant heating system with a Viessmann boiler and tank for this client in his home. He was impress with the quality of workmanship and the performance of his system, so he contacted us to install a similar system in the new home in Hunts Point he was planning. He said he would like his mechanical room to be a "Destination Resort" that he could show off to his friends. The room is housed behind glass doors to give a feeling of a Rolls Royce Showroom. The controls and circulators are housed in an insulated custom lit cabinet with glass doors. The hydronic lines are insulated to meet UMC specifications with grey jacketing. The boilers were ordered with nat gas Chassis Burner and Divicon in left/right configuration to aid in room symmetry.
We worked closely with the Mechanical Engineer to design a radiant floor heating system that utilizes outdoor reset to provide 90% of the home heating load with hydronic forced air backup. The quite Carrier Variable Speed air handlers are painted to match the Viessmann equipment and the hydronic air coils have dual heat output based on flow regulation by a TRV. The two Viessmann Vitola 200 boilers are situated on the Viessmann H-300 Horicell 92-gallon indirect-fired tanks to provide the custom bathrooms large quantities of domestic hot water. Drawings of the mechanical room were generated along with ducting plans for the supplemental heat and Air Conditioning. Radiant design was calculated using RightSoft Program, with room-by-room calculations to ensure proper flow and spacing. The home has a radiantly heated basement with two suspended floors above utilizing Gypcrete at 1 1/2" thickness. Many of the floors were nail down hardwood and the architect specified two layers of overlapping 1/2" plywood floating over the Gypcrete to nail the hardwood to. Although this provides an excellent substrate to attach the hardwood, it required warmer radiant water temperature requirements than the stone floors; so two Viessmann Divicon Mixing Stations were specified.
