Northwest Mechanical Solar Panels

April 04, 2018

Northwest Mechanical’s solar panels are a green, cost-efficient way to update your Seattle home. By purchasing a solar electric system, you are essentially paying for your future energy up front. The benefit of this is that you don’t have to worry about energy rates increasing. In fact, increasing energy rates mean that the assessed value of your solar photovoltaic system goes up.

A question asked most often is about the Seattle rainy weather and its effects on solar panels. Seattle weather is not actually a problem, with long summer days providing enough sun to make up for rainy winters. Despite increasingly efficient technology and declining costs, most customers in Washington rely on state and federal incentives to make the considerable cost of installing a solar electric system even out.

Solar panels are also a great way to reduce your carbon footprint. An average residential solar panel system can decrease three to four tons of carbon emissions each year.  This is comparable to planting over 100 trees annually.

Solar powered homes are in demand for Seattle home buyers. Multiple studies show that homes with solar energy systems have higher property values and sell more quickly than non-solar homes. Appraisers are increasingly taking solar installations into consideration as they value homes at the time of a sale, and as homebuyers become more educated about solar, demand for properties equipped with solar panel systems will continue to grow.

Currently, the incentives for solar photovoltaic systems are:

  • 30% Federal energy Tax Credit based on installed system cost.
  • Washington State Incentive of 15-54¢ per kWh that your system produces.
  • Renewable Energy Credits (REC’s) that fluctuate in price from 2-20¢ per kWh your system produces.
  • Sales Tax Exemption.
  • An increase in home value of $20 for every $1 your system saves you annually.
  • Accelerated system depreciation over 5 years for businesses.
