Radiant Heat Makes Good Sense

December 06, 2013

Just imagine waking up on a cold Seattle morning to feel your feet glide across a warm and toasty floor.  Sounds nice, huh?  Radiant heat floors aren’t just a luxury, they make good sense, too.

Radiant heating systems supply heat directly to the floor.  The heat from the floor then warms everything it touches (including people and pets) and radiates throughout the room from the ground up. Here are some advantages of radiant heat:

  • Radiant heat is more efficient than baseboard heating and often more efficient than forced-air heating because it eliminates duct losses. Better efficiency means lower energy costs.
  • Hydronic (liquid-based) systems use little electricity, a benefit for homes off the power grid or in areas with high electricity prices. Hydronic systems can use a wide variety of energy sources to heat the liquid, including standard gas- or oil-fired boilers, wood-fired boilers, solar water heaters, or a combination of these sources.
  • Temperatures are more constant than with forced-air heating.
  • Its better for people with allergies because it doesn’t distribute allergens like forced-air systems can.
  • Radiant heat systems operate silently.
  • Radiant heat systems are out of sight.

Installing radiant heat throughout your home, or in just one room, can make your home comfortable, more energy efficient and save you money.  Contact us to speak with one of our home services experts.
